Well, I guess I'd better start off by introducing myself.....
My name is Deborah and I am a retro wife.
Not exactly the same as saying the infamous line "My name is....and I'm an alcoholic", but more shameful in some peoples eyes.
You see, in a world obsessed with equality and progress, I am marching to the beat of a different drum. While my friends and peers are busy at their jobs, negotiating office politics and carving out careers, I have chosen to step away from all that and fight on the "Home Front".
Simply put, I am a "housewife". And I am proud of it! I work harder than I ever did when I had a job. My days often begin at 5.30am when my baby wakes up (he doesn't have a snooze button!) and it could be midnight or after before I tumble into bed. But I can honestly say I love every moment.
Far from being a life of drudgery, chained to the kitchen sink, this life is more fulfilling than I could ever have imagined. Before, I worked in management, which frankly was as boring as it sounds. Now I am an interior designer, a nutritionist, a chef, a counsellor, a financial advisor as well as a wife, mother, lover and friend. I also run my own small business. Life is good.
At the root of all this is my love for the Lord. My Christian faith is what inspires and directs me in my efforts as a home maker. I do not want to be "just" a housewife, but the best wife and mother I can be.
But even if I wasn't a Christian, I would choose this life anyway. Why? Because it is pretty much what everyone out there is searching for - a meaningful life, where what you do really matters and your focus is on what is really important. I get to spend my days enjoying life's simple pleasures and knowing the blessing of caring for those I love.
Now what is so awful about that?!
